Update—October 1st

My work on a new Advent series called Born to Reign took a hit this past week. Four of the past eight days I’ve spent considerable hours in Chicago’s Rush Memorial Hospital at the bedside of my son Jeremy, who is battling an aggressive form of lymphoma, or cancer of the blood.

He’s a 41-year-old father of three beautiful children: Eliana (5), Nehemiah (3) and Anelise (1). I keep reminding that…

“Lord, from my perspective, his wife Angela and his delightful children need their husband and daddy—need him dearly.”

Only God knows what their future holds. I am content to rest in that knowledge—but the unknowing is difficult, and it certainly took a toll on my creative writing this past week.

Fortunately, because of the sermon-preparation system I follow, I don’t have to worry about what has been written so far, or where the work is heading.

The theme for the overall series: “Bona-fide worship of the newborn King necessitates identification with His Kingdom vision.”

Under that overall direction, the emphasis for the First Sunday of Advent: “For our worship of the newborn King to be authentic during this Advent Season, we need to first understand His Kingdom plans for a better world.”

My intention is to post this five-sermon series on our Sermon-Coach website prior to Advent this year. Some of that depends on my family situation. I would certainly appreciate your prayers regarding both of these matters.
