A Truly Wonderful Gift

Recently, a pastor told me a funny story about a minister who was given a pie by a woman in his congregation, but it was so awful the family couldn’t eat it. So they dumped it in the garbage. Now the question was, what to say to the woman who baked it.

Well, sure enough, at church the next Sunday, he was asked, “How did you like my pie?”

“I tell you,” the pastor responded. “Pies like that don’t last very long around our house.”

And, of course, the woman was so pleased, she baked the pastor another one!

On a serious note, the wife of the minister telling me that story had a very special gift. Not music, not teaching, but baking for widows in the congregation, for single moms, or for people in the community going through a hard time. All I joking aside, I say that is truly a wonderful gift!

I continue to feel very grateful and am humbled by the many positive comments about my latest book entitled The Sermon Sucking Black Hole—Why You Can’t Remember on Monday What Your Minister Preached on Sunday. This book is now available at Amazon.com by clicking here.

This book gives some solid tips to the people sitting in the congregation to help them remember what you’ve said from the pulpit when they come to worship services in the church where you serve as pastor.
