The Refreshment of Sharing

A friend my age said the other day, “You know, I don’t get that much out of church anymore.” I agreed with him. But, I added that I really don’t expect to get much.

You see, I’m almost 80 years old. I was raised in a Christian home. I have walked with the Lord for quite a while. If our pastor planned the service to teach me things I didn’t already know, he’s going to lose most of his people.

Oh, I appreciate the church, I love it. But, the fact is that the sermons are geared to the many newcomers attending. I mean they couldn’t find “Hosea” in the Bible if you gave them a couple of minutes to do so. That doesn’t bother me. At a certain point, some of us need to realize we have been given a lot and it’s time to change our expectations.

So instead, bring a neighbor or a friend. It will probably all be fresh for him or her. Make sense? Good!

I am grateful that I continue to hear how God is using my latest book entitled The Sermon Sucking Black Hole—Why You Can’t Remember on Monday What Your Minister Preached on Sunday. This book is available at Amazon.com by clicking here.

This book gives some solid tips to the people sitting in the congregation to help them remember what you’ve said from the pulpit when they come to worship services in the church where you serve as pastor.
