My List

“I’m preached out,” a pastor confessed to me the other day. And, because he apparently felt incapable of coming up with another sermon idea, he asked, “What would be a topic or two you would like to hear a sermon about?”

I decided to give him a short list of sermons I personally felt would be both interesting and helpful. Here’s what I came up with after about a half-hour of reflection:

The Eyes and Ears of Jesus – learning to see what He would see and hear what He would hear (possible text: Luke 8:42-47).

Eating With Tax Collectors – learning to be comfortable around the unchurched (possible text: Luke 5:29-32).

More Prayer Power – learning to pray more effectively about difficult situations (possible text: Mark 9:14-29).

Intense Longings – learning to identify our intense longings or passions (possible text: 1 Thessalonians 2:17).

Thinking Big-Picture – learning to purposely expand our worlds for the sake of the Gospel (possible text: Mark 16:15).

That was my list. If I visit your church and you preach on one of these topics, you’ll undoubtedly have my interest.

And, if none of these work for you, ask someone in your congregation to give you his or her list.
