Let Go Of Our Painful Past—Part 5
Born to Be a Hero
Then let me review briefly a tale you know about another young man born to be a hero. He knew instinctively that this was so. In fact, he tried his own hand at doing a mighty work for the Lord, righting a grievous wrong, establishing himself as a champion for God.
Touched by the injustice he saw, he actually slew an oppressor of his people, and by doing so he became a marked man for life. There might as well have been a scar on his cheek too! Everyone knew him on sight, except maybe those at some far edge of the world. So, that’s where he fled and subsequently stayed for forty-some years. That’s until the Lord came and said, “You don’t know who you are, Moses. You were born to be one of My early heroes.”
Not ready to break the glass ceiling of his limited thinking, Moses protested.
(Ex. 3:11), “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? [Why, I bet my picture is still up in every post office in Egypt!]”
(Ex. 4:1): “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’? [It’s going to sound stupid when I explain that You talked to me through a bush that was on fire!]”
(Ex. 4:10): “O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue. [I-I ge-get ti-ti-tired of p-p-people saying—‘Eh?’ and ‘What?’]”
(Ex. 4:13): “O Lord, [pa-pa] please send someone else to do it.”
