I Need Your Feedback

What would you think about making this announcement before you preach next time?

“I want to inform you that in an effort to improve my communication skills, I have asked five people in our congregation to evaluate this morning’s sermon. They have agreed not to talk to anyone else about their response. Also, they will e-mail or phone me as to their thoughts by noon this Wednesday. What they share will be confidential between me and these given persons.

“Next Sunday I will once again ask five additional men or women or teens to do this as a favor to me. My plan is to continue this practice for at least ten Sundays. Let me know if you are interested in being chosen for this task.”

  • How do you think your people would respond?
  • Would they see this as something positive?
  • Would it cause you to work harder on your sermon?
  • Might people listen more closely to what you say?
  • Does such a tactic threaten you?
  • Is this just asking for trouble?

I personally think this is an idea that would bring about a greater bonding between a preacher and his/her people. I’m also curious to know if anyone reading my suggestion is willing to try it.
