Continuing my sermon on the master/slave relationship that Sunday at Circle Church, I said:
Those of you who know Him well realize that He has a loving sense of humor. Something I have come to appreciate about Him is that He isn’t temperamental. His basic personality doesn’t change from day to day. He is consistent. Our Master, unlike other masters, is good. In fact, His good is unsurpassed. He always does the appropriate thing. And, many times He goes beyond what we expect. Is that not correct?
He is trustworthy. If He gives His word, even to a slave, you can expect Him to keep it. I have never known Him to be sick, or to look a day older, or to take time off! Our Master is righteous and just in the way He operates. And yet, He loves us all.
So often He forgives us, and many times, as our Master, He goes that extra mile.
Then, He is wise and His wisdom guides us. He helps us bypass many pitfalls we do not even see. We are stewards—more than that, we are slaves. But, unlike the other masters, He doesn’t call us in these ways. Do you remember what He calls us? He calls us children and heirs! Maybe that is because He Himself has been a steward or servant. I guess this is partly why He loves and understands us so much—because He humbled Himself taking on the form of a slave.
He is the wealthiest of all the overlords, and He is the head of all the masters. He is the only one of a kind. Fellow stewards, let me present our unique Master, beyond description!
Let us stand and warmly express our appreciation to Him.
We stood, and we clapped, and with tears running down our faces awarded Him the response He so justly deserves.
