Sermon Input from Outsiders

This week our pastor has invited four other people (men and women) to sit with him and discuss what topics we feel should be preached about in the months ahead. His instructions were for each of us to pray about the time together and to come prepared with our own lists.

I have been to meetings like this before, so I look forward to not only sharing what I feel are timely subjects, but also hearing what the other participants have to say.

We understand that he is not obligated to follow up on our suggestions. But the truth is that our various lists make for a lively discussion and all kinds of additional ideas to explore. I find this to be a healthy exercise and admit to often using what I hear when preparing sermons of my own.

I believe it’s a great idea that can be repeated every so often, with the same people or a totally new group.
